Description
Surgery remains the gold standard treatment for Peyronie’s disease in men who are in the stable phase and want the most rapid and reliable way to become functionally straight (defined as < 20 degrees) and functional with respect to rigidity. There are three recognized procedures- tunic plication (for curve < 60 degrees), plaque incision or partial excision & grafting (for men with excellent rigidity and >60 degree curve and/or severe indentation deformity) and straightening maneuvers over a penile prosthesis when rigidity is compromised. The evolution of these surgeries, over the past 60 years, is addressed as are the indications and nuances of choosing which procedure to perform.
