Description
This video describes the placement of a new prostatic implant for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy. The implant consists of a non-absorbable suture material with metal staples. The implant is deployed via a cystoscopically guided needle that deposits one end of the implant outside the prostatic capsule. A nitinol anchor molds to the surface of the capsule. The other end of the implant is inserted after the prostatic lateral lobes have been compressed. The result is bilateral implant (N = 2-8) hold the lateral lobes of the prostate open, enlarging the channel and resulting in symptomatic improvement. Voiding flow diminution is modest but symptom relief is superior to drugs. The surgical technique using only local urethral anesthesia is demonstrated.
