Description

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is proposed to serve a dual role in the treatment of Peyronie’s Disease (PD). Its biomolecular anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-fibrotic and remodeling properties provide the rationale for its use as intralesional therapy. Preliminary studies, mostly on acute phase PD, have found intralesional HA to effectively reduce plaque size and curvature, and to improve IIEF and VAS scores compared with placebo and other treatment modalities such as verapamil.

As a penile filler, HA provides structural augmentation in the setting of PD which extends beyond aesthetics, with the goals to improve girth, contour, and patient perception. Early studies have reported greater patient satisfaction, improved sexual function with low complication rates, although PD patients were mostly excluded from study populations and no standardized protocol is available. This video covers the injection technique of HA penile filler, and the potential complications of HA filler with their management which is mostly conservative with hyaluronidase reversal. The aim of the video is to provide an overview on the scientific basis and available evidence behind the dual role of HA in the treatment of PD. None of the applications described have been approved for PD, the evidence remains preliminary and is not intended for use in clinical practice.
