Penile implant; hydrogel 3-D model
Description
In this video we demonstrate the use of a biodegradable 3-D hydrogel based model to train urologist in penile implant surgery. The model is made based on a MRI derived mould and CAD models. The model consists of a polyvinyl alcohol viscous gel. The model mimics the biomechanical properties of human tissue. All relevant anatomical structures are in the model incorporated. Due to restriction of working hours of residents and due to shorter residency training programs, these models can be a valuable alternative to train young urologists in this field of surgery. The model used comes from the simulation innovation lab from Rochester University and is developed by Ahmed Ghazi.
