Description
Since their introduction to the market in the 1970s, penile prostheses have established themselves as a definitive and effective treatment option for erectile dysfunction. Compared with other therapeutic methods, they achieve the highest satisfaction rates among both patients and their partners.
We present the implantation of a semirigid penile prosthesis in a 73-year-old patient with erectile dysfunction following radical prostatectomy and adjuvant radiotherapy. In his medical history, the patient had previously undergone implantation of an inflatable penile prosthesis (AMS 700) and an artificial urinary sphincter (AMS 800). Due to malfunction of the inflatable prosthesis, the patient preferred conversion to a semirigid device.
The aim of this video is to demonstrate the key differences between the implantation of an inflatable and a semirigid penile prosthesis.
Although the inflatable penile prosthesis remains the most implanted type today, the semirigid prosthesis continues to represent a favorable alternative with simpler handling in selected patients.
