Description

Penile size enhancement implants are devices implanted above dartos to achieve the desired patient appearance and increase in girth. These devices may need to be removed due to a variety of reasons – infection, patient dissatisfaction, mispositioning, and pain. Prior patients who had removal of the device, but not the capsule, were noted to have contraction of the capsule and dorsal curvature of erect penis, caused by the tethering extratunical scar. We demonstrated a technique for surgical removal of the implant and capsule on the dartos side. The capsule overlying bucks fascia and the suprapubic space is removed, with a goal of reducing scarring that may lead to curvature and shortening. The capsule underlying the skin is kept in place, preserving some girth and avoiding potential injury to the overlying skin.
