Description
Introduction:
Injectable Penile Fillers have been described as early as the 1890s. Several Materials have been used in many centers, particularly private practices and usually by plastic surgeons using silicone, either liquid or plain, for penile enhancement. Several studies have documented a variety of complications associated with these procedures and generally these types of injections are not recommended. Silicone is associated with foreign body reaction, swelling, infection and late granulomatous reaction.
Objectives:
Present the case of a patient with complications of penile injections of liquid injectable silicone
Methods:
We present the case of a 63 year old patient who presented to clinic with a history of years of pain with erections. He has a history of penile injections with Liquid silicone 30 years ago. now presents with tethering and pain with erections. We planned for surgical debridement of penile skin and split thickness skin grafting using thigh skin.
Results:
The patient had excellent cosmetic and functional post operative results.
Conclusion:
Patients with a history of silicone injections to the penis may suffer late complications including tethering, penile pain, and difficulty of sexual intercourse. Penile skin debridement and split thickness skin grafting might be necessary to adress these functional issues. Patients seeking girth enhacement should be counseled against using permanent permanent fillers which might result in complications like these.
