Cavernoscopy: minimally invasive technique for removing retained and encapsulated rear tips

In penile prosthesis revision surgeries, surgeons may encounter difficulties in removing the rear tips, which can become retained in the proximal corpus cavernosum. The challenge arises when rear tips are encapsulated, even for experienced implanters. The video demonstrates an endoscopic technique called

cavernoscopy for their removal. The approach involves introducing a urethrotome into the proximal corpus cavernosum. Capsulotomy is then performed using a Sachse`s cold knife to fully expose the rear tips. Subsequently, a cystoscope is

introduced, and with the assistance of endoscopic extractor forceps, both pieces can be successfully removed. Without performing a capsulotomy, removing the rear tips

would be impossible. Cavernoscopy serves as an alternative to extensive expansion of the proximal corporotomy and the open perineal incision, providing a reduction in

surgical morbidity.
