Description

Purpose: Surgical therapies for female patients with stress urinary incontinence include the pubovaginal sling procedure to restore urethral resistance and prevent incontinence. Allograft materials have been used in pubovaginal sling procedures in attempts to reduce operative time, reduce postoperative discomfort, and a smaller abdominal incision. However, concerns include failure to achieve desired tensile strength leading to reduced efficacy compared to gold standard of autologous fascia. This video introduces a novel technique in backtable preparation of the allograft fascial sling to achieve increased graft durability and promote tissue remodeling.

Method: Surgical how to video detailing novel technique in use of allograft cadaveric fascia in pubovaginal sling for female patients with stress urinary incontinence

Result: Surgical video of single patient procedure. Video attached.

Conclusion: Allograft materials in pubovaginal sling procedures represent a promising alternative to autologous fascia. This video demonstrates a novel technique in preparation of the allograft material to promote graft durability. Further studies to investigate outcomes of this procedure will follow.
