Description
This extensive video covers step by step how to insert an inflatable penile prosthesis through a penoscrotal incision. The use of the disposable self-retaining retractor with penile strap and various configurations of hooks is covered in detail. The authors claim proper deployment of the retractor saves operative time and facilitates avoidance of common intraoperative complications. Traditional placement of the reservoir in the retropubic space is illustrated comprehensively. Understanding of the retropubic placement of an inflatable penile prosthesis is facilitated by medical illustration, live surgical visualization employing laparoscopic camera and cadaver studies. A unique method of pump placement is proposed. With the help of a laparoscopic camera the technique avoids the unsightly “Maserati penis” or visualization of the prosthesis tubing under the skin of penis and scrotum resembling tail pipes of a car.
